Nissan Habitat for Humanity

Nissan has a proud history of helping out in times of need, as seen in recent volunteer efforts in areas of Japan still recovering from the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. For more than 10 years, Nissan and its Canton Assembly Plant has committed itself to the community of Jackson, Mississippi, and the efforts of Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area (HFHMCA). Now that the weather is finally getting warm, the Nissan crew is ready to suit up and get to work on houses for families in need.

Hurricane Katrina and Rita in 2005 was the original reason that Nissan began working with Habitat for Humanity. In the aftermath of the storms, Nissan donated one million dollars in support, along with 50 Nissan Titans to assist the charity as it attempted to help the Gulf Coast pick up the pieces from the storm. According to Nissan, its employees around the country have committed more than 70,000 hours to build more than 60 houses across the country.

This month, Nissan has started a build at 2913 Greenview Drive, an area of Jackson currently being revitalized. Through April and May, Nissan employees will visit the site to help build a new home for Kena Span, a Jackson resident with four children.

“We share Habitat’s commitment to building sustainable communities,” said Steve Marsh, Nissan – Canton, vice president of manufacturing. “Building this house makes a positive, lasting contribution in the revitalization of Greenview Drive and we are honored to work with Habitat for Humanity Mississippi Capital Area again on a new home.”
