Sir Chris Hoy

Nissan might be a major manufacturer of consumer vehicles, but the automaker does field several impressive race teams. The latest member of the Nissan race team family announced this week is raising the bar for all future racers, though, because he is an honest-to-god knight.

Sir Chris Hoy will be behind the wheel of a Nissan race car to take on the legendary 24 Hours of Le Mans endurance race in June. If you’ve heard the name Chris Hoy, it’s probably more in connection with bikes instead of cars. Sir Hoy is the most decorated Olympic cyclist in history, and is an 11-time world champion in his sport. After he conquered the bike, he turned his attention to car racing, with his sights set on the Le Mans race. He is a fairly successful car racer as well, making it to a race podium in his first season.

The 24 Hours of Le Mans race, or 24 Heures du Mans, is one of the most difficult endurance races in the world. It’s been an incredible event since it was founded in 1923, and also goes by the moniker “Grand Prix of Speed and Endurance.” Some brands send concept cars to test them out, and others send established race cars. Sir Chris Hoy drove a Nissan GT-R NISMO GT3 when he entered a race for Nissan in 2014, but this time he will be behind the wheel of a Nissan LM P2 prototype.

“The time from my racing debut to getting a Le Mans drive has been short but many GT Academy athletes have done the journey even quicker,” said Hoy. “It’s incredible what can be achieved with the right support and the right people around you.” We wish the valiant knight the best of luck on his quest to conquer the Le Mans track.
