Nissan North America Habitat For Humanity

In case you were not aware, this year’s election season is bringing out some truly hateful feelings about the press and media at large. The image of journalists received a much-needed boost in the public’s esteem this week, though, when Nissan had the great idea to put them to work building one of the automaker’s latest homes for Habitat for Humanity.

To be fair, the media that was building the house in Nashville was probably not from the group following the political races in the US that have the worst image problem, but it was a step in the right direction. Nissan reports that more than 50 journalists from outlets around the country came together to help the automaker build its 11th house in the Nashville area, called “The House the Media Built.” Thanks to their help, it took only six days, from October 17th to October 28th, to build the home.

This latest Habitat for Humanity project with Nissan is part of the company’s re-commitment to the charity announced earlier this year. “Nissan began its relationship with Habitat for Humanity more than a decade ago with a donation of $1 million, 50 TITAN trucks and an abundance of employee volunteer time following Hurricane Katrina,” said Dan Bedore, director, Nissan Division Communications. “This relationship goes to the heart of our values, not only as a corporate citizen, but as neighbors in the communities in which we live, work and serve.”

We can’t wait to see what’s next in this partnership between Nissan and habitat for Humanity. Perhaps when this election is through, the entire election press corps should be shipped somewhere to build Habitat homes for some image rehabilitation. We’re sure Nissan could help find them a project.
