1-millionth US-made export Nissan LEAF

Nissan manufactures cars in Smyrna, Tennessee, and Canton, Mississippi, and exports them to 68 markets around the globe. Just this week, Nissan US produced itsĀ 1-millionth US-made export, a Nissan LEAF built in Tennessee and bound for South Korea.

Nissan has made a considerable investment in manufacturing cars in the US, with more than $10.1 billion between the two plants. The first American-made Nissans started rolling off the production line 31 years ago and now total 13.7 million.

The LEAF is assembled in the United States and shipped to Canada, Japan, Korea, and Mexico. It recently became the first electric vehicle to sell over 30,000 units in a single year. Canada, New Zealand, and Taiwan are among the top markets for Nissan’s exports.

Much like the US auto market is seasonal, with peaks in sales at certain times of the year, other markets overseas fluctuate as well. Since seasonality is different in each auto market, it balances out sales and makes predicting sales and manufacturing a lot easier for Nissan.
