Nissan’s Project Titan Crowd-Sources the 2014 Titan Pickup

With services such as Kickstarter and IndieGoGo encouraging the public to put their money where their hearts are, it’s only natural that the idea of crowd-sourcing would find its way into the automotive industry.  During Wednesday’s media event at the 2014 Shooting, Hunting, and Outdoor Trade (SHOT) Show and Conference in Las Vegas, Nissan announced “Project Titan” to allow fans to help build the 2014 Nissan Titan full-size pickup truck.  The campaign is a spiritual follow-up to last year’s Project 370Z crowd-sourcing effort.

“Nissan is invested in designing the most innovative trucks ever. Projects like this allow us to gather input directly from industry leading media members and those companies that embrace an outdoor lifestyle in their work and play, helping us deliver trucks that buyers want to own,” said Fred Diaz, senior vice president, Nissan Sales and Marketing, Parts and Service in the U.S, in the automaker’s press release. “There is no better place to debut Project Titan than the SHOT Show.”

For “Project Titan,” Nissan is asking shooting, hunting, and outdoor journalists to submit tweets or videos of their “ultimate outdoor adventures” with the hashtag #ProjectTitan.  More than 2,500 media representatives were invited to join in on the initiative’s first stage.  The journalists can come up with the most ambitious adventures they can imagine (though we don’t imagine a trip to Mordor would be an option).

Further aspects of Project Titan will be unveiled through the @NissanTrucks Twitter and Facebook accounts.  The ultimate result, however, will put a U.S. veteran who has been injured while serving our nation behind the wheel of the customized 2014 Nissan Titan.  With the veteran will be an outdoor journalist to document their ultimate outdoor experience.

With development still underway on the next-generation Nissan Titan pickup, Project Titan seems like just the thing to give outdoor enthusiasts more of what they want in a pickup truck.  What we know so far: an optional Cummins 5.0-liter V8 Turbo Diesel will supply the 2014 Titan with more than 300 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque.

“The next-generation Titan is well-positioned to be a major contender in the full-size pickup truck market and buyers will be impressed with what we have planned,” added Diaz.
