Nissan’s Super Bowl Commercial “With Dad” Wins YouTube AdBlitz
Every year after the Super Bowl, millions of Americans argue feverishly over which commercial was the best. Now, thanks to YouTube, we can choose the best democratically. This year, that honor went to Nissan’s moving “With Dad” commercial.
The video of the commercial, posted on February 1, has received over 22 million views. Prior to the big game, Nissan teased the first few seconds of the commercial and even showed a preview of the Le Mans race car that was to be revealed during the commercial, the Nissan GT-R LM NISMO. When the commercial actually aired, Nissan had a surprise in store for viewers with the reveal of the 2016 Nissan Maxima.
The mix of family values, new cars, and Harry Chapin’s Cat’s in the Cradle for background music struck a chord with Americans, who chose it as their Favorite Super Bowl Commercial of 2015 in the YouTube AdBlitz promotion. Fred Diaz, senior vice president of Nissan Sales & Marketing in the US, said, “The tremendous response we’ve had to the commercial is due in part to the excitement around the new vehicles teased in the spot, but mainly came down to creating a story that authentically resonated with our audience.”
Nissan hadn’t aired a commercial during the Super Bowl since 1997, but they definitely exceeded expectations with this one.
