No. 66, 67 Ford GTs Set for Spa Before Chasing Le Mans Glory
This week, the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Ford GTs take to the track once again for the WEC 6 Hours of Spa. This race, which comes two weeks after their FIA World Endurance Championship debut at Silverstone, will be the last tune-up for the No. 66 and No. 67 cars before it joins the No. 68 and No. 69 Ford GTs the 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The Ford GTs finished fourth and fifth at the 6 Hours of Silverstone, and the seven-kilometer Spa-Franchorchamps Grand Prix Circuit in Belgium is more than suitable for one last run before the biggest endurance race of ‘em all. After the race at Silverstone, the Ford GTs and the Ford Chip Ganassi Racing Team hit the Motorland Aragon circuit in Spain for additional testing.

“The objective of the Motorland Test was to test the Ford GT to its limit in an endurance run,” said WEC team principal George Howard-Chappell. “We completed a run that was comfortably longer than the Le Mans 24 Hours, which gives us great confidence in the reliability of the cars. Spa is our last race before Le Mans so it would be nice to think we can improve on our Silverstone result and make it onto the podium.”
“We had a very promising race at Silverstone,” said Stefan Mücke, one of the drivers responsible for the No. 66 Ford GT’s fifth-place finish. “The car ran like clockwork and the team did so well, especially when you consider that the pit stops during the race were the first ‘hot’ stops they had done. We are now ready to aim for the next step, and that is a podium finish!
“Spa is one of my favorite circuits so I’m excited to drive the Ford GT there. It has a good combination of corners and I think it will be a good circuit for our car.”
The first practice session at SPA takes place this Thursday at 12:15 CET (7:15 pm EDT on Wednesday), with qualifying following on Friday at 16:05 CET (11:05 am EDT on Friday) and the race itself getting underway on Saturday at 14:30 CET (9:35 am EDT on Saturday).
