Clarkson, Hammond and May

One of the highlight features of the debut season of The Grand Tour was the traveling tent in which Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May conducted many of their on-camera shenanigans. The trio set up tent at a new location in the world for every episode, providing a variety of lovely backdrops every week for the viewers at home. In fact, it was one of the things that helped differentiate it from Top Gear and one of the reasons the show was called “The Grand Tour.”

As it turns out, the tent will not be traveling anymore for the upcoming second season, and probably for good reason. “Given the show presenter’s sore joints, struggling lungs and combined age of 158, the studio tent has been given a new home in a charming location in the Cotswolds, UK,” explained Andy Wilman, executive producer of The Grand Tour.

That’s right—we shouldn’t forget the long-time hosts of Top Gear and now The Grand Tour are now getting on with age. Clarkson is 57 and recovering from pneumonia, May is 54, and though Hammond is still a sprightly 47 years of age, he has a tendency to get himself into seriously dangerous accidents (just this year he was involved in a huge crash driving a Rimac Concept One for the show and required knee surgery).

“We’ll keep the studio in one place, and given how accident prone they are at the minute, that can only be a good thing!” Wilman said.

Fortunately, this doesn’t mean the show is scaling back on its international adventures. New segments have already been filmed in Spain, Dubai, Switzerland, Croatia, and Mozambique. Expect The Grand Tour to air some time this fall.
