Ohio woman Jan Gansheimer, the Assistant Vice President of Human Resources for Honda North America, was honored on Thursday at the 2016 STEP Ahead Awards in Washington DC. Gansheimer, who has worked in a variety of different manufacturing roles for Honda over the years, was recognized for her work to advance the impact of women in the manufacturing industry.

An initiative of The Manufacturing Institute, the STEP (Science, Technology, Engineering and Production) awards highlight women in manufacturing who encourage other women and mentor the next generation of female talent. Though women represent 47% of the labor force, they currently make up only 27% of the manufacturing workforce.

“I love the variety that manufacturing offers at Honda because it provides the opportunity to create, to solve problems and to work constantly to improve products for the customer,” said Gansheimer. “I’m honored to be recognized for supporting an industry that has significantly impacted my life and is so important to the fabric of the country.”

Gansheimer’s career at Honda began back in 1986, when she went to work as a production associate at the automaker’s plant in Marysville, Ohio. Her continued promotions over the last thirty years led her to take on job titles including staff engineer at the East Liberty Auto Plant, manager of the North American Support and Development group in the Purchasing Division, plant manager of the Marysville Motorcycle Plant, division manager of the Purchasing Division, and AVP of plant operations for Honda of America Mfg., Inc.

Gansheimer began her current position as AVP of Human Resources in February 2016.

Gansheimer and other honorees at the gala were recognized for their work advancing STEP’s initiative to promote manufacturing as the most advanced, high-tech industry in the US, and for advocating for education and training policies that strengthen the manufacturing workforce.
