The long journey of Mazda’s One-Millionth Miata has finally come to a close, as after touring the world, the commemorative model has returned to the company’s Hiroshima headquarters.

Mazda’s One-Millionth Miata tour has been going on for a year, now. The tour was, predictably, to celebrate a huge landmark in the success of the world’s most successful roadster, and saw the commemorative car visiting fan-facing events across the globe, where it accumulated some interesting souvenirs: signatures.

At each of the 35 events on the tour in Japan, the UK, Spain, Germany, Belgium, the US, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, fans signed their names on the bodywork, creating the most unique paint job ever to touch an MX-5.

“Seeing so many signatures from all over the world really brought home the fact that people from different countries, cultures and generations have supported the MX-5 for more than a quarter of a century,” said Masashi Nakayama, Program Manager and Chief Designer of the fourth-generation MX-5 (aka the current generation). “We are forever grateful to these fans, and we will continue working to elevate this car, a symbol of Mazda’s dedication to driving pleasure, to the realm of high culture as we set our sights on the next milestone – 2 million units.”

However, this isn’t the end of the One-Millionth Miata’s time being shown off to the public. It is going to be taking part in the Hiroshima Flower Festival parade on May 3rd, and will be on display in the lobby of Mazda headquarters from May 8th-12th.
