The OnStar RemoteLink app launched just a few years back in 2010, as the very first smartphone application that allowed users to be connected to their vehicles remotely.

“Over the past few years, RemoteLink has become one of the more popular OnStar service offerings,” explained Terry Inch, chief operating officer, OnStar. “Customers see the value in having a remote connection to their vehicle, which comes in handy during the summer and winter months, or when planning a trip.”

In total, the app has been downloaded more than 2.5 million times, but this milestone marks the first time that the app claimed more than 1 million active users.

While the app allows drivers to check on vehicle diagnostic info, like oil level and tire pressure, as well as lock and unlock the doors, the most popular feature of RemoteLink is the remote start function, and it is used most, of course, in the winter.

The OnStar RemoteLink app is available across the four major smartphone platforms: Android, Blackberry, iOS, and Android. The latest feature added to RemoteLink’s repertoire is Vehicle Locate, which comes in handy when drivers can’t remember where they parked their cars. Vehicle Locate will pull up a map and show the user exactly where the car is sitting. The app also includes added features for the 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot.
