Opel Astra

There are few cars anywhere in the world that can boast a level of popularity comparable to that of the 2016 Opel Astra. The winner of the Golden Steering Wheel and the European Car of the Year 2016, the Astra has been the recipient of both critical and consumer acclaim. And there is perhaps no greater indicator of the Astra’s success with consumers as the fact that more than a quarter-million of them have been ordered to date since it hit the market last year.

“Lighter, more agile and with top technologies that make driving more relaxed—this is our new Astra,” says Opel CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. “We promised a big hit in the compact class—and we kept our promise. With a host of innovations otherwise rarely found in this segment, the youngest generation of the Astra and Astra Sports Tourer is again a best-seller.”

The Astra five-door and Astra Sports Tourer have received plaudits for their new architecture, which makes the vehicles up to 200 kilograms lighter than the previous-generation model. The Astra is also popular with tech-savvy drivers thanks to its inclusion of General Motors’ Opel OnStar with built-in Wi-Fi hotspot, which allows drivers and passengers to connect up to seven smart devices to 4G LTE wireless internet.

Other popular features that have served to make the Opel Astra a crowd-pleaser include Intellilux LED headlamps with adaptive matrix light technology and driver assist technologies such as Traffic Sign Assist, Forward Collision Alert with Autonomous Emergency Braking, and Opel Eye. And for all of this, the Opel Astra is nonetheless considered as having the lowest total cost of ownership in its class.
