Six months into 2016, Opel’s passenger car sales total more than 128,500 units in Germany, an increase of 13% or 14,500 units over the pace set in the first six months of 2015. In that same period of time, Opel’s market share in Germany has risen by 0.4 percentage points to 7.4%.

As could be reasonably expected given the trends of the past several months, Opel’s growth has been led largely by the Opel Astra. Opel has sold around 32,800 Astras in Germany thus far in 2016, up 30% from the number sold through June 2015. This number has been aided significantly by the addition of the Astra Sports Tourer, which has been a popular option in the lineup since its launch in April of this year.

“Thanks to this strong result in the first six months, we are well on the way to reaching our ambitious goals in Germany this year,” said Jürgen Keller, the head of Opel in Germany. “Our model offensive continues at full pace—in September, the new Mokka X and our well-connected flexibility champion, the new Zafira, will celebrate their market debuts and give our business additional impetus.”

Opel revealed the new Mokka X crossover earlier this year, and revealed its new Zafira Tourer MPV last month.

Opel’s sales were up 14.5% in Germany through the first quarter of 2016, and May sales were up 26% year-over-year.
