The 2018 Buick Regal is expected to closely resemble the Opel Insignia Grand Sport

The new Opel Insignia Grand Sport and Insignia Sports Tourer have both earned five-star ratings, the highest score possible, in the Euro New Car Assessment Program (NCAP). The Euro NCAP grades vehicles on their safety over four different categories: adult occupant protection, child occupant protection, pedestrian protection, and safety assist.

The model tested to earn the result was an Insignia Grand Sport 1.6CDTi Edition with standard safety equipment, which includes cutting-edge features and technologies including Head Up Display, Lane Keep Assist with automatic steering correction, Lane Change Alert with Side Blind Zone Alert, and IntelliLux LED adaptive headlights.

“The top marks from Euro NCAP demonstrate that the individual safety components of the new Insignia form a total system” said Opel Managing Director, Sales and Aftersales, Peter Küspert.

The Insignia Grand Sport earned a rating of 93% in adult occupant testing, scoring high markets in lateral impact tests and autonomous emergency braking city tests. Its score for child occupant testing was 85%, with high marks earned for crash test performance based on six- and 10-year-old occupants and its restraint system.

The Insignia scored a 78% in pedestrian protection, earning special praise for its active hood and Automatic Emergency Braking. Finally, in safety assist testing, the Insignia earned a nice score of 69% by virtue of autonomous emergency braking scoring well at highway speeds and standard front seatbelt reminder technology.

The Opel Insignia Grand Sport and Sports Tourer: boy, are they ever safe.
