Opel Mokka Debuts in South Africa
Opel is bringing the Mokka sub-compact SUV to South Africa for the first time ever, launching the popular range in the region following the successful launches of the ADAM and Corsa.
The all-new Opel Mokka—sold in the US as the Buick Encore—is available with either a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic transmission and comes in either the Enjoy or Cosmo trim. Each Mokka model is powered by a powerful and efficient 1.4-liter turbocharged ECOTEC engine that produces 138 horsepower and 148 lb-ft of torque.
“As a compact luxury SUV the Opel Mokka straddles the popular and growing SUV B and C segments of the market in South Africa,” said Christopher Cradock, Opel Brand Manager at General Motors South Africa. “With this vehicle we are bringing German engineering, state-of-the-art technology and safety features from larger and more expensive SUVs into a market space dominated by emerging products.
“Our trio of new Germans—the ADAM, Corsa and Mokka—have democratized luxury technology and life-saving safety features by making them accessible to consumers in the A, B and C segments of our market at reasonable prices.”
The Mokka is widely beloved throughout Europe, with 2014 orders surpassing 240,000 units.
