In order to make its vehicles more accessible for drivers with physical handicaps, Opel is offering a number of mobility aids that can be factory installed on vehicles like the Astra, Cascada, and Zafira and will soon be available on the Insignia. The products can be selected when ordering any of the aforementioned vehicles and are protected by a comprehensive warranty.

“Simple and safe—this is how every driver, with or without a physical disability, should be able to drive their vehicle. The new ex-factory mobility aids make this much easier,” said Opel Managing Director Sales and Aftersales Peter Küspert. “The driver has all important functions under control with one hand. At the same time, the car can easily be converted in just a few seconds so that everyone feels comfortable behind the wheel.”

The two new products are the Veigel Commander and Multima PRO hand control unit from Petri+Lehr. The former provides the ability to operate essential vehicle components like lights, signals, wipers, and horn by using a radio remote control located on the hand-operated throttle lever, which enables disabled drivers to maintain one-handed steering throughout. The latter allows control of those same components using an MFD Touch turning knob and is offered in a design that doesn’t hinder the ability to move the driver seat.

These tools work in conjunction with standard and available safety technologies including Park Assist, Rear View Camera, Side Blind Spot Alert, and Lake Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning.
