Opel’s car-sharing service, CarUnity, has hit one year of service. In just 365 days’ time, CarUnity has already seen more than 4,000 vehicles registered, and Opel has plans to only make its service bigger and better.

Opel announced plans to expand CarUnity beyond its Rhine-Main base of operations and into Berlin and North-Rhine Westphalia. Increased availability should increase CarUnity’s visibility and open the service up to more users who may have previous been unaware of the benefits of car sharing.

“Car-sharing the Opel way has convincing advantages”, says Chief Marketing Officer, Tina Müller. “We offer users flexible, affordable mobility or the opportunity to earn money with their car. Society in general and the environment benefit too, because CarUnity uses already existing cars, which conserves resources.”

Opel touts one of the benefits of CarUnity as being the ability for users to use a personal vehicle regardless of whether it happens to be an Opel or not. It is noted that in addition to individuals and employees of Opel, 60 dealers have also made their vehicles available for use through CarUnity.

“CarUnity’s motto is ’better off sharing’ and there could hardly be a better match for Opel than our innovative peer-to-peer concept”, adds Dr. Jan Wergin, Director Opel Community Carsharing. “Approachability, after all, is one of our brand values.”

CarUnity has been well used in its region, having reached the 5,000-user milestone as of August 2015. Further expansion should ensure both an increase of that already-impressive number and the spread of its motto: “better off sharing.”
