The Opel ADAM received the highest score in its segment in J.D. Power’s German iteration of the 2016 Vehicle Dependability Study. The ADAM was joined by the Mokka SUV, which ranked in the top three for compact SUVs.

The 2016 Vehicle Dependability Study, published in cooperation with AUTO TEST, studies the number of problems experienced in the first 12 months of ownership for vehicles that are between 1-3 years old. For this year’s study, 15,453 individuals were polled by J.D. Power.

The 177 problem symptoms were divided amongst eight different categories: engine and transmission; body; driving experience; controls and displays; infotainment, communication, and navigation; seats; climate control; and interior. The metric for each brand and vehicle is then rated in terms of problems per 100 vehicles (PP100).

Brand-wise, Opel ranked well below the industry average of 127 PP100, which itself was down slightly from an average of 129 PP100 in 2016.

“Our customers and the quality of our vehicles are our highest priority”, said Jürgen Keller, Opel’s Executive Director Sales, Marketing & Aftersales in Germany. “The excellent performance in this year’s J.D. Power Report not only fills us with pride, it also motivates us to aim for better and better results with each new model.”

Coinciding with the results being announced for the 2016 VDS was the revelation of the Auto-Test Winners 2016 awards. The Opel Insignia 1.6 CDTI was ranked at the top of the midsize car category for offering the best value for the money in its class.

Last month, Vauxhall moved up five spots in the UK version of the J.D. Power Vehicle Dependability Study.
