Opel Presents Angela Merkel with New Astra (Toy)
Opel’s booth at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show was visited by none other than German Chancellor Angela Merkel earlier this month, and the reward her interest in the brand, Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann gave her a brand new Opel Astra. Okay, so it wasn’t an actual Astra. It was a model car, but still, it makes for a nice story.
Merkel was among a prolific group that stopped by the Opel booth to get a better look at the brand new Astra. Other visitors included Volker Bouffier, the Premiere of the Federal State of Hesse, and German Automotive Industry Association President Matthias Wissmann, who were greeted by a welcoming committee that included Neumann, Chief Marketing Officer Tina Müller, Managing Director Purchasing and Supply Chain Katherine Worthen, and Vice President General Motors Quality Europe Elvira Tölkes.
The mini Astra presented to Merkel was the same color as her blazer (white, just in case you missed the headline photo), and it was airbrushed on-site specifically for her arrival. Merkel will no doubt place the new Astra model next to the Berry Red model she received when she visited Opel at IAA two years ago. For the record, that vehicle also matched her blazer.
