Opel Reveals New Astra Ahead of IAA
Opel is unveiling its new Astra this month at the IAA in Frankfurt, Germany, but before it pulls the cover off the real deal, it’s uncorking some good ol’ fashioned press photos for everyone to enjoy.
The new Astra is what GM calls “nothing less than a quantum leap for the compact class in terms of efficiency, connectivity and premium features, packed in a new, athletic design.” It’s definitely a sharp, smart-looking hatchback that’s sure to catch the attention of its fair share of new car shoppers throughout Europe.

“The Astra leads Opel into a new era. Two years ago in Frankfurt, we presented the visionary Monza Concept study that combines pure efficiency with comprehensive, one-of-a-kind connectivity,” says Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann. “Now we present our brand-new Astra generation, which already realizes many of the study’s trailblazing features. The new Astra is more efficient, lighter and more comfortable than ever before.”
The Astra will be 200 kilograms (roughly 100 pounds) lighter than the previous-gen Astra, which is said to contribute to increased performance. It will also benefit from a powerful new engine lineup, including a new 1.4-liter Ecotec direct injection turbo that will generate 92 kWh (roughly 123 horsepower).
The new Astra will also add Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, as well as OnStar and its 4G LTE with built-in Wi-Fi.
