Opel sales in Germany totaled 21,260 vehicles in May, up 26% (or around 4,400 vehicles) from its sales figure in May 2015. This growth is more than double the rate at which the German passenger car market grew during the month, helping the brand gain 0.8 percentage points of passenger car market share.

Through May, Opel’s passenger car sales are nearly 103,000 units, up 15% (or approximately 13,250 vehicles) from the pace set during the first five months of 2015, having grown twice as much as the German passenger car market as a whole. Opel’s market share through five months has risen a total of 0.5 percentage points to 7.4%, the same market share percentage it saw for the month May.

“Things are continuing to look up at Opel. I am sure that our new models will add further impetus to our sales. Especially given the fact that the new Opel Mokka X has been available for order in Germany since the beginning of the week,” said Jürgen Keller, Opel Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Aftersales in Germany.

The current Opel Mokka saw a 40% sales increase in May, leading to the expectation that the Mokka X will solidify the nameplate’s dominance of the SUV B segment. Also posting a strong month in May was the Astra, of which Opel has sold more than 26,600 units through five months—up approximately 30% from Astra sales through the first five months of 2015.
