Opel has released preliminary registration numbers for February, revealing a 15% increase in sales from February 2015. Opel delivered 80,300 vehicles across Europe, or approximately 10,500 more vehicles than what were delivered in the same month last year. This allows the brand to lay claim to its best sales in February in five years, and a 0.3 percentage point increase in market share brings that figure to a five-year best at 5.6%.

Opel’s European sales are up 13% through the first two months of 2016, with brand sales approximately 18,000 units better than where they stood through February of last year. This can be attributed to major growth in a number of major and minor markets throughout the continent.

“We grew in 17 markets thanks to our young and attractive portfolio. The new Astra was key for our success. The Astra Sports Tourer, available at dealers from April, and the new Mokka X will continue to drive our business after a strong start into the year,” said Peter Christian Küspert, Vice President Sales & Aftersales Opel Group.

Opel’s biggest grower in February was Germany, where sales were up 27%, passenger car sales were up 28%, and market share increased by nearly a full percentage point to a four-year best at 7.7%. Through February, the brand’s sales have increased 25% over 25, with market share reaching 7.6%. In addition to the Astra, the Opel Meriva, Mokka, and Corsa were major growth leaders.

“After an already good January we managed to put in an even better performance in February. It shows just how attractive our current portfolio is. The new Opel Astra, the European ‘Car of the Year’ is exceptionally well received and registered growth of 84 percent in February,” said Jürgen Keller, Executive Director Sales, Marketing and Service, Germany.
