Portland resident Rishabh Mehandru and his historic LEAF

This week Nissan delivered the 75,000th LEAF to Rishabh Mehandru of Portland, Oregon. Well, it’s his second, because he loved his first one so much that he had to buy one when the lease was up. Mehandru is a senior engineer at Intel and commutes 30 miles a day without burning a single drop of gasoline.

As a runner, he took offense to all of the exhaust fumes of cars that passed him. He told Nissan, “I instantly became aware of the amount of fuel I was burning, and that’s when I first decided that I wanted to get an electric car.”

Mehandru purchased the black 2015 Nissan LEAF SV from Carr Nissan in Beaverton. The SV trim includes useful commuter features like navigation, a 6.6 kW onboard charger, and CARWINGS, the mobile app that lets drivers track how much charge they have left and activate the climate control system remotely.

Although this is his second LEAF, he convinced one of his friends to purchase one as well. Since electric vehicles are a new thing on the automotive scene, Nissan is relying on early adopters like Mehandru to spread the word and show others how practical a plug-in car can be for urban commuters.
