2014 Outlander Named Best Mid-Size SUV/Crossover in KBB Awards
The 2014 Mitsubishi Outlander has earned the title of Best Mid-Size SUV/Crossover in Kelley Blue Book’s annual 5-Year Cost to Own Awards, affirming its status as the most affordable vehicle in its segment over the course of a half-decade.
We’ll happily let Mitsubishi Motors North America’s (MMNA) Executive Vice President Don Swearingen do the talking here:
“We are very proud to see that our all-new 2014 Outlander model has won the distinguished ‘5-Year Cost to Own Award: Mid-Size SUV/Crossover’ from Kelley Blue Book – a very welcome industry prize. And since our outgoing last-generation Outlander was also a recipient of the award, we are pleased with its continued success.

“More importantly, this honor represents a win for our customers as well, who experience meaningful cost-savings to own and operate as well the high degree of safety it provides, thanks to its ‘Top Safety Pick+’ award by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).”
While the competition was certainly fierce (the Outlander beat out the outgoing FJ Cruiser by a total of less than $400 dollars, and the third place Jeep Wrangler trailed by only about $1,500 more), the Outlander came up big thanks to affordable trims, advanced safety technology to prevent costly dings and dents, and a superlative 10-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty.
If you’re looking to trade up to a newer model, we want to know if the 2014 Outlander’s standing as Best Mid-Size SUV/Crossover compels you to buy Mitsubishi. Leave a comment and let us know what you think!
