Outlander PHEV GX3h 4Work: basically this, just minus some guts

Those of us looking forward to the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV still have a good little while to wait. Probably about a year, in fact, and that’s if Mitsubishi doesn’t make two or three more declarations about having to push it back because of some new standard they have to meet. In the meantime, folks in Europe are on track to receive their second version of the plug-in hybrid. Granted, it’s an Outlander PHEV van, dubbed the Outlander PHEV GX3h 4Work, but it’s still reason enough to get excited if you’re a fleet owner.

According to Motoring Research, the Outlander PHEV GX3h 4Work isn’t a van per se; it’s basically just the Outlander PHEV with the back row taken out and the loading space covered with rubber.

So what’s the purpose of this seemingly miniscule alteration? This change qualifies it for the Plug-In Van Grant, which knocks the price down around $12,000 USD. Those planning to use the Outlander 4work…well, for work…will also be able to reclaim their Value Added Tax (VAT), which is 20 percent of the purchase price.

Oh, so then that’s why you’d want something like this to be available to you for your business. Makes sense.

Good on you, Europe. Enjoy  your efficient—and now cheaper—Outlander PHEV. We’ll just be over here twiddling our thumbs until 2015 at the earliest. Yay.
