The redesigned 2017 Buick LaCrosse comes with a V6 engine, available all-wheel drive, and carries a starting MSRP of $32,065

WardsAuto recently released its annual list of the 10 Best Interiors in the industry, and if the title of the article from contributor James M. Amend is any indication—“Yes, That’s a Buick LaCrosse Among Industry’s Best”—the idea that Buick’s redesigned sedan would place among the top of the heap came as a surprise to some.

More likely, though, Amend was acknowledging the successful “That’s Not a Buick” ad campaign that has helped to reposition the brand as one that drivers of any and all ages can appreciate. He calls the interior of the 2017 LaCrosse “the latest example of Buick’s renaissance,” noting that it earns high marks for “outstanding connectivity, superb advanced-safety technology, spaciousness, comfort, and a design execution unseen from the brand in many decades.”

Among the praises heaped upon the 2017 LaCrosse by Wards’ judges were remarks regarding the “simple and fresh” design, the intelligence and speed of the IntelliLink infotainment interface, and a degree of style that one judge said had not been seen in any Buick vehicle in their lifetime.

Still, Amend points out that the LaCrosse’s interior pulls in design elements that made Buicks of old so popular:

It’s a long, wide sedan like the land yachts of its heyday, so the interior boasts loads of shoulder, leg, and hip room in both the first and second rows. The latter is absolutely cavernous. At the same time, a horizontally oriented design theme up front maintains a close connection between the driver and passenger, while an upper dashboard line wraps occupants to create an intimate feel.

Amend also notes that the interior color palette was considered to be among the LaCrosse’s high points, with rich, contrasting accent materials and supple leather seating surfaces enhanced by cool blue ambient lighting.

Amend’s closing statement says it all: “The large-sedan segment is not nearly as popular as it used to be and buyers still may shake their heads at Buick, but the LaCrosse certainly has made believers out of us.”
