Phil Kienle was named Vice President of Opel/Vauxhall Manufacturing

General Motors announced this week that it has named Phil Kienle the new Vice President of Opel/Vauxhall Manufacturing and appointed him to the Management Board of Opel Group, effective March 1st. Kienle will be replacing Peter Thom in the role, who will be accepting the appointment to the position of Vice President of Quality for North America.

Kienle’s previous role was that of VP of Manufacturing for General Motors International and General Motors China. His new position will have him overseeing the operations for all manufacturing facilities across Europe. He will report to Executive Vice President of GM Global Manufacturing Jim DeLuca and Opel Group CEO Dr. Karl-Thomas Neumann.

“Phil Kienle’s strong leadership and global manufacturing experience comes at a critical time for our operations in Europe,” said DeLuca. “He’ll continue Peter Thom’s momentum and lead manufacturing’s support of Opel/Vauxhall’s most aggressive vehicle offensive in its history.”

“We welcome Phil Kienle to the Opel Group top management team,” added Neumann. “We are looking forward to working with him and taking advantage of his global manufacturing expertise. He is the right person to continue the excellent work performed by Peter Thom.”

Kienle has been working in automotive for more than 30 years with experience in fields ranging from general assembly and plant engineering to powertrain and body. With GMI, he has overseen manufacturing in Africa, Asia, Australia, China, Korea, and Uzbekistan.
