The most notable change to the 2016 Prius is the blacked-out pillar, creating a “floating roof” that’s sure to catch the eye. This design feature is similar to what is found on the 2016 Mirai fuel cell vehicle, suggesting Toyota is finally moving its best-selling hybrid model into the future. The Prius also sports high taillights with angled lighting elements (also similar to the Mirai).

The 2016 Prius keeps its predecessor’s uniquely shaped body, as well as its glass panel between the taillights. It’s also expected to boast a 10% increase in fuel efficiency, which would put it around 55 mpg combined, although the automaker hasn’t yet released official specs on its redesigned hybrid.

The images were leaked via the Prius Club Malaysia private Facebook group.

The next-gen Prius will have its official debut at a media event in Las Vegas on September 8th, with its world premier at the Frankfurt Motor Show later in September.
