The new Ford Escape, replete with the most cutting-edge technologies and offering an exceptional blend of power and efficiency, will be making its way to the land down under.

Ford announced last week that the all-new Escape will be available at a lower starting price (as-yet undisclosed) than the previous-generation model while offering better fuel economy and more advanced safety features. The next-generation Escape joins the EcoSport and Everest, the latter of which will see its range expanded later this year with a five-seat variant. Ford is also planning on launching a new SUV next year that will be based on the Canadian-built Edge.

“The Escape sees the return to a proven nameplate that Australians can identify with, and sees young families and millennials with a sense of adventure benefit from Ford’s global vehicle portfolio,” said Ford Australia President and CEO Graeme Whickman. “It strengthens our SUV lineup with a more refined and sharper offering.”

Among the perks offered by the new Escape is the first appearance of Ford SYNC 3 technology in the mid-size SUV segment. SYNC 3 not only features a clearer and more intuitive interface and better performance overall, but it has also been calibrated specifically for speakers with Australian accents.

The Escape will be offered in a trim known as the Escape Trend, which will feature a 1.5-liter engine that provides 7.2L/100km (39 mpg) combined fuel economy and output of 134kW and 240Nm (180 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque).

The Escape will also be offered with optional Driver Assist Technologies up to and including Lane Keeping System and Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Alert and Enhanced Collision Mitigation.
