[Photos] Ford Unveils All-New KA+
Ford of Europe revealed its latest KA small car this week, and if its new name is any indication, it will be better than the previous iteration. Because, you see, the new KA is not just any KA, but now the KA+.
The Ford KA+ hatchback will be pushed upon customers with an emphasis on interior comfort, fuel economy, affordability, and the all-important intangible of being fun to drive. The KA+ will seat up to five people despite only being 4 meters (13.12 feet) in length, making it just a bit shorter than the popular Fiesta, and it will be 29 millimeters (1.14 inches) taller than the Fiesta.
The KA+ will carry a €9,990 starting price in Germany and £8,995 in the UK.
“Ford has a proud history of offering affordable small cars that are practical, economical and fun-to-drive,” said Jim Farley, executive vice president and president, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Ford Motor Company. “KA+ is true to that tradition, packing a huge amount of value into a compact car that delivers agile driving dynamics and a surprisingly roomy cabin.”
The Ford KA+ will be powered by the 1.2-liter Duratec engine, available with outputs of 70 PS (69 horsepower) and 85 PS (84 horsepower). Either option generates CO2 emissions of 114 g/km and combined fuel consumption of 5 liters/100 km (56.6 mpg). Certain markets (as-yet unspecified) will receive an optional higher-efficiency version of the 85 PS engine that will drop CO2 emissions to 110 g/km.
The 85 PS model will feature manual air-conditioning, Ford SYNC with AppLink, and Ford MyKey. Optional features include: electronic climate control, leather steering wheel with cruise control, DAB audio system, rear parking sensors, heated front seats, power rear windows, privacy glass, 15-inch alloy wheels, and heated and power folding mirror doors.
The Ford KA+ will be available to order throughout Europe beginning this month.
