The compact crossover segment is becoming quite competitive these days. More and more customers are looking for the perfect compromise between a car and an SUV, and the compact crossover seems to be the answer. Just look at the success of the Mazda CX-5, Subaru XV Crosstrek, and Honda CR-V, and you’ll see why more automakers are choosing to enter this fairly new segment. Infiniti is the latest in a long line, and its QX30 concept crossover was just revealed to the world at the Geneva Motor Show. [ See the gallery below ]

The QX30 concept would slot below Infiniti’s smallest current crossover offering, the QX50. It’s distinctly coupe-shaped, with smooth lines that draw the eye backwards towards the vehicle’s sculpted rear end. We don’t know a whole lot about the vehicle, but what we know is that it’s fitted with 21-inch wheels, a stand-out lower bumper, distinctive roof racks, and sculpted skid plates. Inside, we’d assume it boasts all of the luxury customers expect from Infiniti models.

“With the QX30 Concept, we’re showcasing a distinctively contemporary alternative in the premium compact segment for those who want something more than the status quo,” explained Roland Krueger, Infiniti President and CEO. The team in charge of designing the concept crossover did so with a global market in mind, so if and when the QX30 makes it to production, it’s likely we’d see it here on American soil as well as European. For now, however, the plan is to sell the vehicle in Europe, with production slated to begin in 2016 at Nissan’s plant in Sunderland, England.

In the meantime, we’ll be here in America, crossing our fingers that the QX30 makes it to our shores sooner rather than later.
