After much speculation, Ford has unveiled the 2017 F-Series Super Duty and revealed that it will be the first heavy-duty truck to be built with an aluminum-alloy body. Indeed, much like the 2015-2016 Ford F-150, the 2017 Ford Super Duty will utilize a high-strength steel frame and military-grade aluminum-alloy body panels, changes that are certain to make it more powerful and fuel-efficient than ever.

Ford Super Duty is the truck America’s hardest-working men and women trust and depend on,” said Joe Hinrichs, Ford president, The Americas. “We are helping these customers build a better world by delivering a new generation of pickups that set new benchmarks in capability, performance and efficiency.”

As per expectations, the 2017 F-Series Super Duty will be built on a new, fully-boxed frame that will be built from 95% high-strength steel. This, along with new four-wheel-drive components, driveline, axles, and towing hardware, will make the new Super Duty capable of towing and hauling even more than ever.

The addition of aluminum-alloy body panels will not only help the Super Duty combat red rust, but it will contribute significantly to the Super Duty’s fuel economy. All told, the new 2017 Super Duty is said to be as much as 350 pounds lighter than its predecessor.

The F-Series will be powered by a variety of engine options including the 6.2-liter V8 gasoline (F-250), 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 diesel, and 6.8-liter V10. Power and efficiency ratings will be released closer to production.

The 2017 Ford Super Duty will also boast as many as 16 segment-first features, spanning from LED cargo box lighting and LED sideview mirror spotlights to adaptive cruise control and in-cab trailer pressure monitoring system. The trucks will utilize up to seven cameras to make driving, parking, hauling, and towing easier, including a center high-mounted stop lamp camera that will allow drivers a clearer look at the cargo box for hooking up gooseneck/fifth-wheel trailers.
