[PHOTOS] Mazda Brings Array of Customized Cars to 2017 Tokyo Auto Salon
The Tokyo Auto Salon isn’t really an auto show that gets covered extensively on The News Wheel, but like SEMA in the US, the Auto Salon offers some of the best in Japan’s car tuning market.
To that end, Mazda will be bringing a number of concepts to Tokyo this January collectively titled “Custom Style.”
One of the Custom Style vehicles is a (newly redesigned) CX-5 which has been outfitted with a subtle body kit (no kidding—I actually couldn’t tell the difference from the stock body), 20-inch wheels, an adjustable suspension, and matte black brake calipers, while on the inside receiving aluminum pedals, illuminated door sills and puddle lamps.
Another Custom Style concept car will be the newly-released MX-5 Miata RF, which will have similar upgrades to the CX-5, but will also features a sport muffler, front strut tower brace, sway bar, and Alcantara trim.
Mazda will also be bringing another MX-5 (although not the hardtop version) in the original Classic Red paint color, as well as Custom Style versions of the Mazda2 (called the Demio in Japan and not available in the US) and CX-3.
With the addition of an apparently unmodified Global MX-5 Cup race car, the Mazda booth should be very crowded this year.
Personally, I think I preferred last year’s racing concepts, which featured glossy black paint with red aero splitters and side skirts, although I find that I am coming to like the brand’s Machine Gray paint color better every time I see it.
