As we draw nearer to the beginning of the New York International Auto Show (NYIAS), automakers are revealing teaser images and vehicle specs left, right, and center. The latest to bring a new vehicle out of the spotlight is Mercedes, which is unleashing details and photos of its GLE and AMG GLE63—both of which will make their official world premieres at NYIAS next week.

The GLE lineup (which replaces the long-running M-Class lineup) will include four main engine choices—a four-cylinder diesel model, a plug-in hybrid model, a V6 gasoline engine, and a twin-turbo V6. An additional engine option—a powerful V8—can be found in the Mercedes-AMG GLE63, which comes in two variants—the 550-hp GLE63 4Matic, and the 577-hp GLE63 4Matic S.

The addition of the plug-in hybrid marks a first for Mercedes, which has never offered such an engine choice in its lineup until this point. This model consists of a 329-hp V6 engine along with a 114-hp electric motor for a total of 436 ponies. Additionally, the two engines work together to produce a whopping 479 lb-ft of torque. This is coupled to a transmission based on the 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic transmission found on other GLE-Class models. The hybrid GLE (GLE550e 4MATIC) has a total electric range of almost 19 miles.

The GLE has been redesigned from its previous model—the 2015 M-Class—to include an updated front fascia, sharper headlights, a redesigned lower bumper, a reshaped hood complete with two power domes, integrated daytime running lights, and a twin-slat radiator grille. Inside, updates include a bigger screen for the COMAND infotainment system, a new steering wheel style, and a choice of new interior colors with names such as porcelain, ginger beige, and espresso brown.
