The Mazda CX-5 crossover comes with lots of new equipment for the 2017 model year

Most people have heard the phrase, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’, but it seems like Mazda is unfamiliar with this saying because it’s made a whole lot of changes to its CX-5 crossover, which just so happens to the company’s best-seller with 112,235 units moved in 2016.

For starters, the redesigned Mazda CX-5 will carry a higher starting MSRP of $24,045 for the 2017 model year. However, that MSRP doesn’t include the $940 destination charge that pushes the price tag up to $24,985 for the entry-level Sport trim.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 also features an all-new powertrain.

The 2017 Mazda CX-5 comes standard with LED headlights and Smart City Brake Support

While last year’s entry-level CX-5 came standard with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and six-speed manual gearbox, the new 2017 model comes standard with a more powerful Skyactiv 2.5-liter engine and six-speed Skyactive-Drive automatic transmission. What’s more, the entry-level CX-5 Sport comes with other noteworthy standard features like LED headlights, 17-inch alloy wheels, and the Mazda Connect infotainment system that comes complete with a 7-inch color touchscreen and backup camera.

An interesting fact about the CX-5 is that approximately half of the people who bought one opted for the range-topping Grand Touring model. The Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring trim will feature a starting MSRP of $29,395 for the 2017 model year, but that applies only to the front-wheel drive variant. If you’re looking for all-wheel drive, then be prepared to dish out at least $30,695 for the Grand Touring with an AWD system.

For that price tag, the top-level 2017 Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring comes with leather seating surfaces, heated exterior mirrors, SiriusXM satellite radio, and larger 19-inch alloy wheels, as well as LED taillights and LED fog lights.

The updated CX-5 crossover is also available with a number of premium paint colors, such as Soul Red Crystal, Snowflake Pearl Mica, and Machine Gray Metallic, but the latter hue is only offered with the Touring and Grand Touring trim levels.

Mazda says the new CX-5 crossover will reach US dealerships later this month.
