[PHOTOS] Refreshed 2016 Kia Rio Debuts in Chicago
While all eyes were on the Kia Trail’ster electric AWD concept this morning, the 2016 Kia Rio was making a more demure debut at the Chicago Auto Show. And for the sedan version, this appearance was a world-first that was just a tad overshadowed by its more trail-worthy opponent.
Both the sedan and hatchback versions of the 2016 Rio were on stage. The vehicle has been heavily refreshed for the next model year, with new front and rear fascias, a revised geometric-patterned grille, new fog lights with satin-finish bezels, and redesigned rear reflectors, among other features. Two new colors will be available: Urban Blue and Digital Yellow.

“The Rio signifies everything the Kia brand has evolved into since coming to the U.S. market more than 20 years ago,” commented Orth Hedrick, vice president of product planning. “And like the brand, the Rio has grown up as it enters the 2016 model year. Its sophisticated design has been refreshed and both models continue to offer a long list of standard features, making the Sedan and 5-Door standouts in an otherwise pedestrian subcompact segment.”
The exterior isn’t the only part of the Rio that’s had an upgrade. Inside, you’ll see satin bezels around the air vents, a piano black center console, SiriusXM radio, and options like leatherette-trimmed cloth seats. Overall, Kia has given the Rio a more premium feel without the premium price you might expect.
