The 2017 Subaru Impreza Sedan and the 2017 Subaru Impreza 5-Door production models finally debuted today at the New York Auto Show

It’s been a long but worthwhile wait for the all-new 2017 Subaru Impreza Sedan and the 2017 Subaru Impreza 5-Door, which mark the vehicle’s fifth generation. The Impreza model marks the very first in the Subaru platform to be built on the all-new global platform (that is, an architecture that will affect the build of Subaru models in all markets).

The new platform is focused on performance, with improved elements such as straight line stability, noise and vibration suppression, and comfort. Safety is also improved for this platform with 40% better crash energy absorption, and it is built to be “adaptable to electrification in the future.” Efficiency is also expected to improve for this platform, with a drop in weight.

Subaru released a teaser of the redesigned Impreza last week, but it was just an hour ago that we finally got a look at the US production models, which are offered in four trims: 2.0i base, Premium, Sport, Limited.

2017 Subaru Impreza Performance

Under the hood of the all-new Impreza lurks a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, now with direct fuel injection. This engine is mated to a seven-speed continuously variable transmission with steering wheel paddle shifters, and it pumps out 152 horsepower. That’s an improvement of 4 hp over the outgoing model, which delivers 148 hp.

Performance is also improved by a revised suspension and lower center of gravity. Contributing to that lower center of gravity is a 0.4-inch reduction in vehicle height. Otherwise, the Impreza is actually larger, with a 1-inch increase in wheelbase, a 1.6-inch increase in overall length, and a 1.5-inch increase in width. These larger dimensions also make for a more spacious cabin.

2017 Subaru Impreza Technology

The 2017 Subaru Impreza benefits from EyeSight safety technology, which includes pre-collision braking, lane departure and sway warning, adaptive cruise control, and lane keeping assist. New driver assist tech for the 2017 model includes tire pressure monitoring for individual wheels, as well as reverse automatic braking. Multimedia features such as Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard.
