The Volvo V90 Cross Country will be the final addition to its 90-series collection, joining the XC90 SUV, S90 sedan, and V90 wagon. The Cross Country wagon differentiates itself from the regular V90 model due to its higher ground clearance, which allows the vehicle to better deal with off-road conditions throughout the entire year.

“The V90 Cross Country takes the elegance of the V90 and transforms it into an all-road car that delivers safety, comfort and performance in a capable and adventurous package,” said Volvo Car Group President & CEO Håkan Samuelsson.

Volvo has finally released pictures of its newV90 Cross Country that’s set to go into production this fallLike other members of the 90-series family, the V90 Cross Country will utilize Volvo’s new scalable architecture. This platform will also be used with the updated versions of the S60, XC60, and V60.

AutoGuide reported the new V90 Cross Country will be available with the choice of two gasoline-powered four-cylinder engines that are expected to produce somewhere between 190 to 320 horsepower. Diesel engines are also expected to be offered in the European market.

Volvo also paid special attention to the design of the vehicle’s cabin. Despite offering a certain amount of ruggedness and off-road ability, Volvo still wanted the new Cross Country to maintain a luxurious cabin that features the levels of connectivity and leisure that can be found in the traditional V90 wagon, as well as the lavish S90 sedan.

“Designing a Volvo Cross Country is not a styling exercise, a plastic job. It is based on honest capability,” said Senior Vice President Design at Volvo Cars Thomas Ingenlath. “The Volvo V90 Cross Country brings a surprising and intriguing combination of a strong, powerful exterior and a luxurious, Scandinavian interior. It will continue the genuine tradition of the Volvo Cross Country with a new recipe: The blend of powerful off-road capability in a most elegant, sophisticated, tailored wagon suit.”

The Volvo V90 Cross Country is scheduled to begin production later this year at the Torslanda Plant in Sweden.
