After possibly inadvertently revealing the output of its high-performance Regal variant, Buick wasted little time in revealing everything that there is to know about the 2018 Buick Regal RS, which was announced officially on Wednesday.
Is it getting a 310-horsepower V6 engine? Does the Pope poop in the woods? No, that’s an actual question. People seem to be under the impression that this is a thing the Pope does and that’s a weird thing to think without there being some kind of history to it.
Irrespective of Pope poopery, the 2018 Buick Regal GS is indeed getting a new 3.6-liter V6 engine that delivers a burly 310 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque. It will utilize features like direct injection, cylinder deactivation, and stop/start technology to provide a balance of performance and efficiency; a standard nine-speed automatic transmission, intelligent all-wheel drive with active twin clutch, and five-link rear suspension will help make it a capable and smooth performer.
Aiding that smoothness will be Interactive Drive Control, which allows the driver to take full advantage of Continuous Damping Control and tailor their experience behind the wheel with selectable standard, Sport, or GS driving modes.

“With the all-new 2018 Regal GS, we set out to make a driver-focused, engaging and entertaining sport sedan without sacrificing the smooth ride and refined character expected of any modern Buick,” said Martin Hayes, chief engineer for the Buick Regal GS. “Our new V6 and nine-speed transmission, intelligent AWD, and CDC all work to deliver excellent driving performance.”
Stylistically, the Regal GS will be notable from the standard 2018 Regal Sportback for its distinctive sport front fascia, rear fascia, side skirts, and rear spoiler; 19-inch wheels; and GS badging. The Regal GS also comes with sharp-looking Brembo brake calipers in the front that add exceptional stopping power and a sport-tuned exhaust system that should really allow the 3.6-liter V6 to sing. LED headlamps will also be offered as available equipment.
On the inside, the 2018 Buick Regal GS gets AGR-certified performance seating surfaces that offer heating, cooling, and massage functionality, in addition to adjustable seat and seat-back boosters and thigh support. Because it is a performance-focused car, it will get a heated flat-bottom sport steering wheel and sporty pedals and sill plates.
The Regal GS will also be standard with an 8-inch diagonal touchscreen and 8-inch diagonal reconfigurable instrument cluster. Three months of OnStar 4G LTE Wi-Fi and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility are also standard. The Regal GS will be offered with a Driver Confidence II package that adds full-color head-up display and cutting-edge safety technologies such as Forward Collision Alert, Adaptive Cruise Control with Forward Automatic Braking, Lane Keep Assist with Lane Departure Warning, and Front Pedestrian Braking.
“This is a sport sedan designed for everyday driving, but one that makes every drive special,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “The new Regal GS is in the sweet spot of the market: more refined and luxurious than the mainstream, more value for the price with style and premium features on par with higher-end competitors, and with standard features like AWD with active twin clutch and a rear sportback design that will surprise customers with its usefulness.”
If you’re salivating over the prospect of owning a 2018 Buick Regal GS like, say, a Pope eating takeout Chinese in the woods, then you will be happy to know it won’t set you back all that much: $39,990 is the starting asking price after destination fees.
