Competing in the extremely niche market of prestige sedan chargeable hybrids, Cadillac announced the expected debut of the CT6 Plug-In Hybrid for spring of 2017.

“The CT6 is a technological showcase throughout, and by far the lightest car in its class, making it an ideal platform for electrification,” said Cadillac President Johan de Nysschen. “In the CT6, Cadillac presents a new formula for prestige luxury. The advanced Plug-In Hybrid system is a key addition, providing a combination of exceptional fuel economy, crisp acceleration and strong electric-driving range.”

This beast of a hybrid shows that not all power has to be entirely leaded, with a top speed of 150 miles per hour and acceleration from zero to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds. It produces a similar amount of power as the 3.6-liter V6 engine found in some models of the CT6.

Using a mix of engine and battery power, drivers can obtain a total driving range of more than 400 miles without having to stop for a charge, which covers any traditional one-tank trips and more. Fuel economy is an estimated 65 MPGe.

Cadillac claims that it’ll eliminate range anxiety, which will allow drivers to focus on their other anxieties that were previously less pressing.

One of those anxieties might be finding a way to pay for the souped-up CT6 Plug-In Hybrid, priced and equipped similarly to the Premium Luxury CT5 model at $76,090 when including the delivery fee (though tax breaks for efficient vehicles may save customers a bit of green).
