PMMC and KMA Forge Partnership; Kia Donates Custom Soul to Cause
Kia Motors America (KMA) was added today as a partner of the non-profit organization Pacific Marine Mammal Center (PMMC), which is committed to the causes of animal welfare and ocean education. The partnership between PMMC and KMA includes participating in beach clean-up efforts, sponsoring recovering sea lions at the center, and the donation of a community outreach vehicle.
The vehicle in question is a customized 2014 Soul with a distinct exterior that bears the PMMC and KMA logos and a particularly “d’aww”-worthy image of a sea lion.
“We are pleased that Kia has taken an interest in our cause, and sets a great example to other corporations about community philanthropy,” said Keith Matassa, executive director, PMMC, in a joint statement. “We look forward to working together to bring awareness to the public about environmental conservation and consideration to benefit our planet.”

The Pacific Marine Mammal Center was founded in 1971 and is one of the progenitors of marine mammal rehabilitation sciences. In 2013, PMMC was tasked with helping with the biggest crisis in sea lion pup strandings in at least 40 years, with more than 370 marine mammals washing up in Orange County.
“Kia understands that a conscious dedication to environmental education and sustainability is crucial to the communities we call home and the world at large,” said Michael Sprague, executive vice president, marketing & communications, KMA. “Since its founding, The Pacific Marine Mammal Center has grown to be a widely recognized leader in marine mammal rehabilitation science and as the Center continues to expand its reach, it is the perfect partner with which Kia can pursue its vision for a greener future.”
