Polestar Optimizes Volvo V60 D6 Plug-in Hybrid
Polestar has announced that the Volvo V60 D6 Plug-in Hybrid will be the next model to receive a comprehensive performance upgrade. The result will see the V60 increase horsepower from 283 to 293 and torque from 472 lb-ft to 494 lb-ft, making it Volvo’s most powerful diesel model ever built. Remember those halcyon days were driving a PHEV was synonymous with meager performance and paltry power? Yeah, neither do we.

”The Polestar optimization for the V60 D6 combines a strong fuel economy with performance. We are happy to be able to offer the Volvo customers with more driving pleasure in combination with the latest hybrid technology, a very interesting area for the future,” said Hans Bååth, marketing director for Polestar.
And because the Volvo V60 D6 Plug-in Hybrid is a hybrid, after all, the increase in power and torque does not adversely affect fuel consumption or emissions level. This means that your Polestar-optimized V60 D6 is capable of both kicking ass and being good for the environment. Win-win.
Oh, but here’s something of a lose-lose (for we Americans, that is): the upgrade is only available in Sweden, the Netherlands, and the U.K. Makes enough sense given that the D6 PiH is not available stateside, but it’s always a downer to be reminded how many wonderful-sounding diesel-power models we miss out on over here.
Perhaps if Volvo hits its mark with U.S. buyers with the ultra-cool XC90, we’ll be getting both a diesel hybrid option and Polestar optimization. One can always dream, at least. Unless you can’t dream, which is unfortunate if that happens to be the case.
