Pope Francis’ New Popemobile is a Jeep Wrangler
The Pope is coming to town—and he’s doing so in style. According to the Vatican, when Pope Francis arrives in the United States for his first visit to American soil as Pope, he will be using a Jeep Wrangler to get around.
While the exact configuration of the pope’s Jeep Wrangler hasn’t been determined, it’s likely that it will be similar to the four-door Wrangler he used on his previous trip to Ecuador in July. The white, four-door Popemobile was configured with a glass front and roof, but with open sides. We’re going to guess that the US Popemobile will also be white, like the one used in Ecuador, to showcase the Pope’s high religious position.
Since becoming Pope, the pontiff has bucked tradition. Rather than using the typical type of Popemobile of his predecessors—which included a whole lot of bullet-proof glass—Pope Francis instead makes sure he has access to his flock. Regardless of the Popemobile in use—he uses a Hyundai Santa Fe when at the Vatican—the Pope’s mode of transportation is always open air.
In various trips to other countries, the Pope has already used a Toyota Land Cruiser and a Mercedes G-Class. Who knows—maybe he’ll even test out a Mustang or a Corvette while he’s in America?
