Porsche Mission E is a ‘Game Changer,’ Says Mark Webber
Mark Webber, former Formula One driver and World Endurance Championship (WEC) winner, is now one of the few drivers to have gotten behind the wheel of a Porsche Mission E electric car—and he says it’s a “game changer.”
Not much is yet known about the all-electric sedan other than that it makes more than 600 horsepower from two electric motors that drive all four wheels. Porsche claims it should go at least 300 miles on a single charge, can go from zero to 60 mph in under 3.5 seconds, and that eventually there will be a “Cross Turismo” CUV version.
Webber took the Mission E prototype out for a spin around Porsche’s Weissach test track, expecting to be put off by the increased weight from the battery pack. “I’m a bit of an old-school kind of guy and I love nothing more than to drive so I don’t mind admitting I had some reservations,” he said.

“I thought that the Mission E could feel a little heavy but the driving experience is seriously dynamic: the four-wheel steering, the performance and the braking ability were a really amazing experience.”
He even mentioned that at times, the Mission E reminded him of the LMP1 prototype he raced in the WEC. “It actually kept reminding me of the 919, as there were times where we could drive our Le Mans racer on E-Motor alone.”
Though we don’t doubt the Mission E really is a game changer, it should nonetheless be noted that Webber is a contracted Porsche driver, and thus we would recommend taking anything he says about Porsche with a grain of salt (as was comically noted in a teaser video for The Grand Tour’s second season).
