Chevrolet Announces Pricing for the 2015 Bi-Fuel Chevy Impala

The Bowtie Brand yesterday announced pricing for the 2015 bi-fuel Chevy Impala. The bi-fuel Impala is capable of running on traditional gasoline as well as compressed natural gas (CNG) and will start at $38,210, which includes an $825 destination charge. This price does not, however, include dealer fees, license, operational equipment, tax, and title.

A 3.6-liter hardened engine powers the CNG-capable 2015 Impala, which carries a CNG tank in the trunk. This tank holds the equivalent capacity of 7.8 gallons of gasoline and by itself offers around 150 mpg in the city (based on GM testing). While the EPA has not finalized any estimates, GM expects the 2015 bi-fuel Impala to offer 500 city miles when gasoline and CNG are combined.

Not only is this good for the environment—natural gas is one of the cleanest-burning fuels that we have—but it also economical. General Motors predicts that drivers will see average fuel savings of about $1.25 per gasoline-gallon-equivalent.

“The Impala nameplate has recently seen market share growth, and critical acclaim for its design, functionality and low cost of ownership. Now, with the addition of bi-fuel capabilities it will also help customers reduce fuel costs and greenhouse gas emissions,” said Ed Peper, U.S. vice president, GM Fleet & Commercial.

The switch between CNG and gasoline will be seamless for drivers. For the most part, the Impala will run on natural gas, only switching over, without interruption to the driver, when the natural gas is depleted. Drivers can also change fuels at their leisure by pressing a button on the dash; an LED light will indicate when CNG is in use.

While pricing for the 2015 bi-fuel Chevy Impala was released yesterday, the production model will not hit dealership lots until the fourth quarter. It will be available to both fleet and retail customers and offered in the LS (base) trim or the LT trim.
