Production Begins for 2017 BMW Diesel Vehicles

Diesel vehicles seem to have become a somewhat controversial issue in the past few days. With the continuing fallout from Volkswagen’s emissions scandal and the recent questioning of the honesty of Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’s own testing results, it might not seem that far-fetched to assume that other automakers would stray from the production of diesel-based vehicles. Nevertheless, BMW is moving forward with plans that it already had in place.
Production is now underway for the manufacturing of 2017 BMW diesel vehicle models.

“Diesel models will be going into production shortly at our manufacturing plants,” Rebecca K. Kiehne, the product and technology spokesperson at BMW of North America, told reporters from Green Car Reports.
BMW currently has plans to produce diesel models for the 328d sedan and Sports Wagon vehicles. Furthermore, BMW is set to manufacture diesel counterparts for its X3 xDrive28d and X5 xDrive35d SUV models.

BMW had received certification for the production of diesel models from the EPA as early as August of last year.
In previous years, diesel-based BMW vehicles accounted for as much as 4 percent of U.S. sales for the automotive brand.

BMW is not alone in its continued production of diesel vehicles. Mazda recently announced a diesel model for its CX-5 crossover, while Ford has plans in place for a diesel-based Ford F-150.
Meanwhile, Mercedes-Benz has not issued an official statement regarding its final decision of whether or not to introduce diesel vehicles to the U.S. market.
With more diesel-based models on the way, drivers will have a few more options when it comes to the vehicles in the BMW lineup.
