Jeep is replacing the Compass (above) and the Patriot with a new model that is meant to begin production in January 2017

It’s not news that Fiat Chrysler is planning on ending the production of both the Jeep Compass and the Jeep Patriot. This move has been in the making for many months, but now, we know when the new Jeep crossover will come to be.

While the Jeep Compass/Patriot replacement is due to make its American debut in the fall, we won’t be able to get our hands on it until January 30, 2017.

Boo.

According to Automotive News, the current Compass and Patriot production will end at Fiat Chrysler’s Belvidere, Illinois, plan on December 23. Once this production ends, the production for the replacement model—which many people are (unofficially) calling the Compatriot—will begin on January 30, 2017 in Toluca, Mexico.

The end of the Belvidere’s production doesn’t mean the end of the plant, though. After staying closed until May 15, 2017, the plant will begin producing the Jeep Cherokee, which is moving from Toledo, Ohio. The Toledo plant will then become the production home for an expanded next-generation Jeep Wrangler lineup. This includes the new upcoming Jeep Wrangler pickup truck.

A Leader: See how Jeep is leading Fiat Chrysler’s sales

There is still very little information out about the replacement for the Compass and Patriot. Many believe, though, that it will share a similar platform to the Renegade and will likely offer a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. It will also have both a standard six-speed manual transmission and offer consumers an available nine-speed automatic transmission.

Hopefully, we’ll learn more about this new Jeep model as we get closer and closer to its debut date.
