Production of Chevy Cruze Kicks Off at Gunsan
General Motors Korea on Monday kicked off production of the new Chevrolet Cruze at its Gunsan plant with a special ceremony. The next-generation Cruze officially launched in Korea in January.
The event was attended by 250 guests, including Ha-jin Song, governor of Jeollabuk-do; Dong-shin Moon, mayor of Gunsan; Kwan-young Kim, National Assembly Member; James Kim, President and CEO, GM Korea; Yeon-soo Choo, Vice President of Manufacturing, GM Korea; and Sun-hong Kim, site manager at Gunsan.
The event served as both a launch of production for and evaluation of the Cruze and a forum for employee recognition. There was also a cake cutting, which may very well be the best part of any gathering.
“GM Korea posted record sales in the domestic market last year thanks to the enthusiastic response to the Chevrolet Spark, Malibu, Camaro SS, and Trax,” said Kim. “This year, we will continue the positive momentum with new and competitive products. By ensuring flawless manufacturing quality of all-new Cruze, we will meet the highest expectations of premium compact sedan buyers.”
“I would like to congratulate Chevrolet on the successful start of production of the all-new Cruze, a best-selling car worldwide,” said Mayor Moon. “I hope it will establish a solid market position. The city of Gunsan will work with the Gunsan plant to help ensure a positive impact for the new model in the Gunsan area.”
GM Korea posted domestic sales of 11,643 units in January, up 25.5% year-over-year.
