Production of the Q50L Underway in China
Infiniti has begun production of the Q50L in China today at the Xiangyang production plant, kicking off what it hopes to be a long and successful tenure in the world’s largest market for cars.
“Today we are here to witness Infiniti’s big step forward in China. We continue to expand our business in China and develop Infiniti as a truly global premium brand,” says Dr. Daniel Kirchert, president of Dongfeng Infiniti Motor Co., Ltd and managing director of Infiniti China. “Local production demonstrates Infiniti’s long-term commitment to the Chinese market. We will bring Infiniti’s renowned global quality standards and its premium experience even closer to Chinese consumers.”
Opening up production of the Q50L makes China the third country in which Infiniti manufactures vehicles, behind Japan and the United States. By increasing its footprint in China with domestic production and exclusive models, Infiniti is hoping it will be able to climb the luxury ladder and better compete with its German competitors.
Infiniti’s newly named global advertising firm, CP+B, recently set up shop with a new office in Shanghai in order to help the brand increase its foothold in the country.
The Xiangyang plant at which the Q50L is being built was established jointly by Dongfeng and Nissan and currently has a maximum annual output of 250,000 vehicles. 60,000 units of that production are being dedicated to Infiniti vehicles.
Infiniti will next begin production of the QX50L, which—along with the long-wheelbase Q50—is aimed specifically at Chinese luxury customers who prefer longer vehicles.
