With the recent release of the refreshed 2016 Toyota RAV4 and the debut of the new RAV4 Hybrid, Toyota sales saw a slight increase in January, setting the Japanese automaker off to a good start for the New Year.

In fact, the RAV4 saw its best-ever January sales with 21,554 units sold—that’s an increase of 8.7%. In addition, the Highlander saw its best January sales since 2008 with 11,258 vehicles sold. Other January sales superstars included the 4Runner and Sienna, which saw increases of 7.9% and 23% respectively. In all, Toyota division moved 140,350 units in January, which was a 4.1% increase on a daily selling rate (DSR) basis.

“The industry is off to a healthy start in 2016,” said Bill Fay, group vice president and general manager for the Toyota division. “For Toyota Division, RAV4 led the way with a record January and pick-up truck sales continued to rise, setting a new January Toyota division light truck record.”

As gas prices remain low, demand for SUVs and trucks continue to rise, and Toyota fully intends to capitalize with vehicles like the Tundra, Tacoma, 4Runner, Highlander, and RAV4.
